Uptown, New Orleans is full of culture, architecture, gardens and cuisine.

Located steps from the hotel you will encounter history through its restored Greek revival and mid-19th century Victorian and Italianate homes, beautifully manicured English style gardens and live oaks that stretch along the entire length of most Uptown streets. The oldest example of these homes is the Westfeldt House, also known as Toby’s Cornerwhich was erected about 1830. In the garden at the rear of this house is one of the finest live oaks in the city, used as a subject by many artists.

If you prefer to ride instead of walk then the St. Charles streetcar will be your mode of transportation. The Streetcar Line has rumbled through New Orleans since 1835, making it one of the world’s oldest street railways. It's still fitted with mahogany seats and brass ornaments, and simply getting on and riding is a peaceful sightseeing tour of the Garden District.  The St. Charles Streetcar runs through the neighborhood and passes some of the most elaborate homes in the state. There is the “Wedding Cake” mansion, named because of its layers of intricate plaster decorating the facade; the Van Benthuysen-Elms Mansion and the mansion of Colonel Robert Short showcasing the famous “Cornstalk Fence.”  Tulane and Loyola Universities are near the end of the Avenue, across from Audubon Park and the Audubon Zoo.

Creole and Cajun influences have also made the city's cuisine famous, with signature dishes like spicy jambalaya, giant crawfish boils, smoky gumbos, and pork boudin sausages all which can be found in neighborhood restaurants such as the world-renowned Commander’s Palace, Le Petite Grocery and Pascale Manale’s to name a few.

New Orleans' unofficial motto is "Laissez les bons temps rouler," which roughly translates to "Let the good times roll," a Cajun French phrase that describes the city’s carefree attitude.
